Careers

Working with us means helping South Africans build skills, spaces and practical confidence. Based in Braamfontein, we support makerspaces, schools and training venues across the country.

Why People Join SA Makers

We are a small, practical team with work that changes from week to week. One day you may be helping prepare a training room in Braamfontein, the next you could be supporting a partner venue in Pretoria East or checking a starter kit order for a school in Soweto. The work is hands-on, people-focused and tied to real spaces where things get made.

People join us because they like clear systems, useful tools and steady problem solving. We work across workshop setup, safety, training, logistics and community support, so every role has a direct effect on the people using our services. If you are the kind of person who notices what needs fixing and gets on with it, you will fit in well.

Roles We Commonly Hire For

We do not keep a fixed open vacancy list here, but we regularly look for people who can help with training, operations and supplier coordination. Some roles are office based, while others spend time in workshops and partner venues. Depending on need, we may look for temporary support for event maker stations, school lab refresh work or space planning projects too.

  • Training support and facilitator assistance
  • Workshop operations and tool zone setup
  • Starter kit sourcing and stock checking
  • Makerspace network coordination
  • Technical support for equipment and storage systems
  • Community partnerships and onboarding support

What We Look For In A Team Member

We value people who can work neatly, communicate clearly and keep to a schedule. Many of our projects involve schools, shared workshops and venues where safety matters, so attention to detail is important. Experience helps, but practical judgement and a willingness to learn go a long way.

  • Good organisation and follow-through
  • Comfort working with tools, kits or training materials
  • Respect for safety rules and shared spaces
  • Ability to work with different people and teams
  • Willingness to travel when a project calls for it

We also appreciate people who understand local conditions. Load-shedding, limited storage, coastal humidity in Durban, and tight access in some buildings can all affect how work gets done, so flexible thinking is useful.

Where The Work Happens

Our base is in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, but our work reaches partner makerspaces and training venues in Sandton, Midrand, Pretoria East, Soweto, Durban, Cape Town and Gqeberha. That means some roles suit people who are comfortable moving between sites and handling hands-on tasks in different environments.

We often support small teams, school groups and first-time makers, so the pace can change quickly. A morning may start with signage and storage checks, then move into member onboarding or a maker audit later in the day. It helps if you can stay calm when plans shift, because they often do.

How To Apply

If you would like to work with us, send your CV through the enquiry form on our contact page and mention the kind of role you are interested in. If you have workshop, training, logistics or community partnership experience, include a short note on the sort of work you have done before. We review enquiries as they come in and get back to suitable applicants when a role matches our needs.

  • Attach your CV in a clear, readable format
  • Tell us your location and whether you can travel
  • Include any relevant skills, certificates or project experience
  • Mention if you have worked with schools, shared spaces or maker groups

A Practical Team Culture

We like people who are ready to learn, ask sensible questions and get stuck into the work. There is room to grow here, especially if you enjoy supporting others and can handle varied jobs without making a fuss. We keep things straightforward, because practical work is easier when everyone knows what needs doing.

If you are looking for a place where your effort has visible results, SA Makers may suit you. The work can be busy, but it is rewarding to help people set up spaces, learn new skills and build things that matter. Small typo aside, that is the kind of team we aim to keep.

Questions we get asked

Do you have current vacancies listed on this page?

No, we do not keep a live vacancy list here. We hire for different roles as projects and team needs come up, so the best step is to send your CV through the enquiry form on our contact page.

What kind of experience helps when applying?

Experience in training, workshop operations, logistics, technical support, community work or school projects is useful. We also value people who are organised, safety conscious and comfortable working with shared spaces.

Can I apply if I live outside Johannesburg?

Yes. We work with partner makerspaces and training venues nationwide, so applicants from other areas are welcome if they can travel or work from relevant project sites when needed.
